Welcome to the Centre for Sustainable Development
The Centre for Sustainable Development (CSD) is part of the University’s investment in research excellence to reinforce its position as a leading research and knowledge transfer institution in England’s North West. The CSD is based in the School of the Built and Natural Environment and acts as a bridge between the relevant disciplines of the School in sustainability research and study. Discipline expertise include: Environmental Management and Social Sciences (Politics, Geography); Construction Management and Economics; and Architectural Planning and Design. The CSD also liaises with other research centres and schools across the University and with other universities and research institutions. This approach recognises the cross-disciplinary nature of the sustainability agenda engaging research, teaching, knowledge transfer and facilities management activities. The Centre also acts as a link to industry, government and non-governmental organisations concerned with sustainability. The CSD has rapidly established a reputation for pioneering work on science, space and sustainability at the interface between the natural and social sciences. The Centre recognises that the sustainability agenda is people-focussed and its research programmes reflect the need to engage populations at local, national and global levels.
