Saturday Club

Events

At the University of Central Lancashire, we have two Saturday Clubs, one in Art and Design and the other in Fashion and Business.

Both clubs run a year of exciting and engaging creative workshops exploring various art, design, fashion and textiles processes. The Clubs are exclusively for teenagers aged 13 to 16. Membership is free and there are limited places available each year.

The Art and Design Club will cover drawing, illustration, painting, ceramics, printmaking and sculpting. The Fashion and Business Club will cover fashion design, fashion promotion and textiles and will include pattern cutting, illustration, photography, styling and branding.

Each session will take place between 9.45am until 12.15pm on the Preston Campus. The Art and Design Club and The Fashion and Business Club take place in the University’s Hanover Building, Bhailok Street (off Kirkham Street), Preston PR1 2XQ.

Please note: If the Clubs are full at the point of you registering, we will carry forward your request to join in the following academic year instead.

About Saturday Club

Our Saturday Clubs are the first in the Preston area and are part of a high-profile national scheme. The UCLan Saturday Clubs are a positive response to art, design, fashion and textiles provision in the Preston area and the aim is to nurture young people’s talent and build their confidence and self-esteem.

Each year more than 1,250 young people across the UK take part in a local Saturday Club, giving them an insight into student life and an understanding of new opportunities that further education and higher education can offer, as well as helping to improve their schoolwork.

The Saturday Clubs provide a unique chance for Club Members to build art, design, fashion and textiles portfolios, with no pressure of assessment. Members experience and use state-of-the-art facilities and receive expert tuition from our tutors.

As part of the National Saturday Club programme, the UCLan Clubs also take part in three national events, the ‘Cultural Visit’ in semester one, and in semester two a masterclass with an industry professional and the ‘Summer Show’ in June, where all Club members from around the country exhibit their work at Somerset House, London – all for free.

Session dates

For the academic year 2023-24, there will be 18 sessions, starting on Saturday 7 October and each running from 9.45am until 12.15pm – please see the full listing of dates below. With only 30 places available in each club, members are expected to do their utmost to attend every session.
