Lyotropic lipid nanostructures and their hierarchically organized derivatives partly resemble biological configurations like plasma membrane, vesicles, Golgi apparatus, mitochondria and endoplasmic reticulum - ER (both smooth and rough) and also have important implications in their functioning.
Our group explores classical model membranes including Giant Unilamellar Vesicles (GUVs) and Free Standing Lipid Bilayers; however, we are more interested in exploiting other lipid nanostructures to mimic complex biomembranes architectures.
