Open days

Frequently Asked Questions

What if I can't make one of the Open Day dates?

We have a number of Open Days taking place during 2016. If you can't make one of these dates you can book onto our Campus Tour Extra or one of our standard campus tours – find out more about other great ways to visit our campus.

Do I need to register for a place on the Open Day?

We recommend that you pre-register for the Open Day, as this will enable us to send you relevant information in advance. You can then plan your day to make the most of your time, and we will be able to plan for your arrival. Although we prefer that you pre-register for the event, you will still be welcome to attend on the day.

How do I register?

You can pre-register a place via our online booking form

What will you send me when I register?

You will receive an email confirming that you have registered, with a link to the programme enabling you to plan your day. This email will contain your Fast Track registration form; please check the details, print this out and bring along with you as it will speed up your registration on arrival. We’ll also send you travel and direction information along with contact information for on the day.

Who can I bring with me?

Whoever you like! We know choosing a university isn’t easy and you’ll be looking to family and friends to help you decide, so please feel free to bring them along on the day. (No pets though, except guide dogs!)

I have a disability; do I need to let you know?

If you require assistance, we ask that you call us on +44 (0)1772 892400 to discuss your needs. If you require a BSL interpreter, it is important that you let us know as soon as possible so that we can ensure an interpreter is booked for you on the day.

What time should I arrive?

Open Days usually run from 9am to 4pm. You do not have to arrive at 9am on the dot; you can turn up at any point throughout the day. However, we strongly advise that you arrive in good time, preferably before 12 noon, so that you are able to do all of the things that are important to you. Therefore, we recommend that you take a look at the programme before you come and spend a few moments planning your day.

Where can I park on the day?

All the car parks are shown on the inside front cover of the programme; we advise that you head for Foster or Harrington car parks as attendants will be there to help you find a parking space. Parking on all University car parks will be free of charge at the Open Days.

I’m travelling to Preston on the train, how will I find the University?

When you arrive at Preston railway station, look out for the University Student Ambassadors – you will recognise them by their red t-shirts. They will be able to direct you on to a shuttle bus that will take you to the University. Alternatively, you can ask a Student Ambassador for directions as the University is only a ten-minute walk from the station.

Where should I go when I arrive?

We ask that all visitors report to the registration desk in the Foster Learning Zone. This enables us to confirm your registration, update you with any changes, help you plan your day and give you one of our free goodie bags!

Do you have WiFi?

There is complimentary wifi on campus – simply select UCLan Open.

Will I be able to find out about Student Accommodation?

Yes, there will be a talk discussing the various types of accommodation UCLan has to offer. Should you miss the talk, there will also be an information stand where you can obtain the relevant accommodation details. A range of different types of accommodation will be available to view and our accommodation staff will be in the flats to provide further information.

Will information on Student Finance be available?

A number of student finance talks will take place throughout the day. Please see your Open Day programme for times and venues. Additionally, a team of student advisors will be on hand to talk to you on a one-to-one basis on the day.

Will I be able to find out what the social life is like?

UCLan Students’ Union will be open for you to take a look around, and Students’ Union representatives can give you information on what the SU can provide for you if you decide to study at UCLan. You can also ask any of our students working on the day about the social life in Preston.

What will I be able to see when I come to the Open Day?

  • Campus tours
Campus tours are a great way to get a look at the whole University and are led by current UCLan students. Alternatively, you can follow the self-guided campus tour included in the Open Day programme. This will take you on a walking tour around the University with UCLan students available to talk to at key points on Campus.
  • Not local to Preston? Take a city bus tour
If you have never been to Preston, we recommend that you take our city bus tour. The tour will last for about 45 minutes and will help to give you a feel for what Preston has to offer.
  • UCLan Sports Arena
Are you thinking of studying sport or perhaps you simply enjoy playing sports in your spare time? If so you may like to go on our tour bus to the popular UCLan Sports Arena to view our excellent sports facilities. Many of the sessions on sports courses have a tour as part of them so please check the programme.
