Performing arts troupe arrives to mark 10 year anniversary

A performing arts troupe from South-Central University for Nationalities in China has visited the University of Central Lancashire’s (UCLan) to perform a selection of dramatic, musical and artistic pieces as part of the global Confucius Institute 10 year anniversary celebration.

UCLan staff, students and the general public were able to enjoy both traditional and contemporary dances and music with four UCLan students taking part in the celebratory event by joining in Kungfu presentations.

Feixi Yu, the Director of UCLan Confucius Institute, commented: “The event was a resounding success and it gave us a fantastic opportunity to share China’s traditions with local people. We were very grateful for the support of the Mayor of Preston, Councillor Nick Pomfret, at this event which he told us he thoroughly enjoyed.”
Confucius Institutes aim to promote Chinese language and culture in local communities. UCLan’s own Confucius Institute celebrated its own five year anniversary last year with a Chinese opera concert.
