Visitors flock to first Best of Britannia event outside of London
More than 3,500 visitors came through the doors of the Best of Britannia (BOB) North event this weekend as the pop-up department store headed to Preston and set up outside of London for the very first time.
The University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) was a key sponsor of the event which took place from the 15 – 17 May in the historic Post Office building and Market Square in the heart of the City.
Students, staff and graduates from UCLan played a big part in making the event a success; setting up exhibitions and installations alongside the industry exhibitors showcasing the very best in British design. Visitors were able to see and experience work covering architecture, applied arts, fine art, fashion, photography and design for sport and rehabilitation, alongside of performances of poetry, monologues, rap and samba drumming on the outdoor stage.
“It was a resounding success and a fantastic opportunity for students to share their work with the public in such a creative environment."
The event trended on Twitter and comments included: “Thanks to everyone involved in start of something new and very special to the City” and “Impressed by @UCLan Fashion 'Kitsch'en and their creative talent.”
Bill McCoid, the course leader for screenwriting, film and television at UCLan, took 12 of his students to BOB North to showcase their work on the outdoor stage. He said: “It was a resounding success and a fantastic opportunity for students to share their work with the public in such a creative environment.
