Journalist Andy treads the red carpet

A former University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) newspaper journalism student is rubbing shoulders with the stars after being made a showbiz reporter for national newspaper The Sun.

Andy Halls who joined the daily tabloid as a trainee a little more than a year ago is clearly enjoying getting some of the stardust treatment himself on Gordon Smart’s Bizarre column.

“The column, and the job, covers all things celebrity. It involves a lot of late nights, parties and red carpets, which is all good fun.

“It has enabled me to meet some of my heroes in the industry - including Led Zeppelin's Jimmy Page (pictured). It certainly has its perks allowing me to travel the world while doing a job I love."

“It has enabled me to meet some of my heroes in the industry - including Led Zeppelin's Jimmy Page (pictured). It certainly has its perks allowing me to travel the world while doing a job I love,” he said.

Andy, who says he never expected to travel so far so soon, was one of two UCLan students who were selected from hundreds of applicants as trainees as soon as they graduated in 2011.

Earlier this summer another former postgraduate journalism student, Jake Ryan, joined the paper as a trainee.

“It’s wonderful that Andy has got the job of his dreams and it’s a great tribute to his talent that he’s marking a mark in the industry. I’m also chuffed that so many of our students are working for Britain’s biggest daily newspaper,” said Andy’s former tutor, Delwyn Swingewood.
