UCLan has retained its place in the distinguished QS World Rankings

The University holds its position in the QS World Rankings

The University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) has bucked the UK trend and held its position in a league table of top global universities.

UCLan has retained its place in the distinguished QS World Rankings while many UK based institutions have fallen down the list.

The University, which was the first modern University to enter the rankings in 2010, has been included in the table which lists 850 elite universities from the thousands of institutions around the globe.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Mike Thomas said: “We are delighted to have retained our position in the QS World Rankings. Our academic and employer reputation have been ranked highly while our diverse international staff and student community has been recognised.

“Our performance in this league table is not only a great reward for the efforts of everybody here in Preston but is also testament to the progress we’re making on the world stage.”

We are extremely proud that Preston has a University which is ranked as one of the world’s best. We are striving to help people, irrespective of their background, to fulfil their academic potential.

As part of the ranking system, the QS Stars Development Roadmap allows individual institutions to showcase their broader qualities across a range of categories important to students. UCLan has been awarded the maximum five star rating in six of these areas. These cover teaching, employability, internationalisation, facilities, social responsibility and inclusiveness. Overall, the University has been awarded a four-star rating out of a possible five.

This success in this year’s QS World Rankings follows on from the University’s recent excellent achievement in the Complete World University Rankings 2016 when it was named in the top 3.7% of all worldwide universities.

Professor Thomas added: “We are extremely proud that Preston has a University which is ranked as one of the world’s best. We are striving to help people, irrespective of their background, to fulfil their academic potential while developing as global citizens and achieving their career goals.”
