Top name author and publishers attending the University in June

Calling all book fans!

The bestselling author Cathy Cassidy is visiting the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) to celebrate 100 years of Alice in Wonderland.

Cathy, who has penned 27 novels during her career, will be attending the Mad Hatters Tea Party on 22 June to discuss her ‘Looking Glass Girl’ book.

The free event will see the three time Queen of Teen award nominee talk to fellow literary fans and sign copies of her book.

It runs from 5.00pm to 7.00pm in Scholars Restaurant, in UCLan’s Foster Building, complete with afternoon tea and free parking. Tickets are very limited and are available on a first come first served basis, email Debbie Williams to apply for yours.

Another free literary event taking place at UCLan is aimed at people who are interested in a career in publishing but not quite sure what it is and where to get started.

Bestselling author Cathy Cassidy is visiting the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) to celebrate 100 years of Alice in Wonderland.

‘Is a Career in Publishing for you?’ will see several top industry names attend the Preston Campus on 17 June.

The panellists include:

  • Philippa Dickinson - former Managing Director of Random House Children's
  • Alison Baverstock - author of How To Get A Job In Publishing
  • Tony Mason - Senior Commissioning Editor at Manchester University Press
  • Becky Chilcott - Freelance Designer who works with Bloomsbury and Penguin Random House
  • Rachel Winterbottom - Commissioning Editor at HarperVoyager
  • Seonaid MacLeod - Publisher Relations Executive at The Publishers Association
Starting at 2.00pm, there will be a panel discussion about the different departments in publishing to give an idea of the types of jobs that are available and the skills needed to enter the industry. They will also consider how this has changed over the years.

The panellists will also give tips about getting into the publishing industry and will take part in a question and answer session. This will be followed at 4.00pm with a chance to network.
