Preston graduate collects nursing accolade

A soon to be grandmother who has worked in the NHS for 25 years has been rewarded for her studies at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan).

June Harvey received her award recently from representatives of UCLan and The Priory Group, an independent hospital based in Preston which specialises in the management of acute psychiatric illness and who sponsored the awards.

The dedicated Pre-registration Diploma in Higher Education in Mental Health Nursing student was awarded the Priory Hospital Preston Nursing Award.

She said: “I found the degree course hard work but worthwhile and found the teaching staff particularly supportive throughout my studies.”

June started her medical career with the NHS as a nursing assistant at Whittingham Hospital and progressed gaining her NVQ levels two and three, before the Trust sponsored her through the ranks. She also worked in rehabilitation for approximately nine years.

She now works at West Strand House in Ashton in the assertive outreach team. West Strand House is part of Lancashire Care and provides outpatient treatment and community mental health services for people living in Central Lancashire. She has been in this post for five years and continued to work there while studying for her degree.

She received a cheque for £250.
