Sports journalist Tom to head up new Trinity Mirror site Football.London

A sports journalism graduate from the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) will head up a new website launched by Trinity Mirror aimed at London football fans.

Tom Marshall-Bailey, who graduated from UCLan in 2013, is the editor of Football.London, which launched only last week and will feature in-depth news on the six Premiership clubs based in and around London - Arsenal, Chelsea, Crystal Palace, Tottenham Hotspur, Watford and West Ham United.

The 24-year-old said: "Being named editor of football.london is an honour and I am so excited at the challenge of leading a team to deliver an innovative website."

"I learnt plenty at UCLan but if I was to take just one thing away from my time there it would be the advice from my lecturers of never being ready to give up and always willing to take on new ideas."

"Since leaving UCLan I have worked in various roles within Trinity Mirror, including most recently a group-wide editorial role which has stood me in good stead for my new venture.

"I learnt plenty at UCLan but if I was to take just one thing away from my time there it would be the advice from my lecturers of never being ready to give up and always willing to take on new ideas.

"I feel football.london is the culmination of hard work during and after university and I am thankful to everyone at UCLan for the help they gave me in realising my dreams."

Speaking to Hold The Front Page, Tom said: “I feel privileged to have been given the opportunity to launch Football.London. This is the first 24/7 fan-led resource for the capital’s clubs, providing London with a digital home for clubs from the top flight to non-league.”

Tom's former tutor Charlie Lambert, who recently retired from the University, said: “Tom was a very bright and cheerful student at UCLan. It was a pleasure having him on the course and I'm not surprised that he is doing so well in forging a successful career.”
