Squad aims to raise funds to enter top competition

High-kicking students from the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) are planning to showcase their talents to the public to help raise funds so they can take part in a top competition.

The UCLan Tigers cheerleaders are heading to the National Cheer Association championships in April and need to raise thousands to cover the cost of travel, accommodation and entry fees.

They have already spent around £100 each on uniforms. The five groups which make up the squad are planning a free evening of entertainment with displays by all the teams at Sir Tom Finney Sports Centre on Tuesday 10 March from 8.00pm and are hoping people will turn up to support the show.

“We are going around the local shops and businesses and are hoping they will provide raffle prizes to help us raise money on the night and we will also be putting on refreshments as well as a few stalls.”

Team member Emily Whalley said: “We are going around the local shops and businesses and are hoping they will provide raffle prizes to help us raise money on the night and we will also be putting on refreshments as well as a few stalls.”
