Inclusion Institute
The International School for Communities, Rights and Inclusion, (ISCRI) at the University of Central Lancashire is pleased to announce the launch of a new national and international initiative on social inclusion.
The Inclusion Institute, led by Professor David Morris takes forward the work of the cross - government National Social Inclusion Programme as a national centre of excellence for learning, evidence, innovation and practice on inclusion in the context of both personalisation and sustainable, engaged communities.
Based at Kings Fund, London as well as Preston, Lancashire, the Inclusion Institute will utilise the philosophy, expertise and learning resources of the National Social Inclusion Programme to:
• build a sustainable and practical evidence base on inclusion, linked to:
• local support for development and practice
With a number of Academic and Development Associates to augment the broad range of resources of ISCRI, the Institute will offer established learning networks, bespoke practice development, teaching and course development and practice-based evaluation and research. Together with its national partner and affiliate organisations, it will support work on inclusion in older people, families, dementia and disability as well as mental health.
Some examples of the key activity areas:
Commissioning with citizens for inclusion outcomes.
Arts and culture – developing the health effectiveness evidence through databases of good practice and shared learning with mainstream arts organisations.
Connected Communities - building capacity and evaluating effective social network models; enabling services to advance inclusion outcomes through lay engagement.
Employment – work with service users; supporting a personalised approach by intermediary organisations to work access.
Education, learning and skills - widening mainstream access; a continuing partnership with nine regional networks.
Day services – modernising for inclusion outcomes: practice database and extensive learning network with major voluntary sector partners.
Workforce and leadership – developing the capable workforce and skills for leadership in services and communities.
Primary Care – developing approaches to inclusion outcomes at practice level.
The Institute will incorporate a number of hosted networks, including an experienced reference group of service users, an integrated network of Professional Colleges with the Association of Directors of Adult Social Services and an established academic network of universities. It will link with a number of European and wider international programmes and networks.
It will develop partnership and affiliation with a number of national and regional organisations. We are pleased to announce that these already include Alzheimers Society, College of Occupational Therapists, Kings Fund Leadership Directorate Mental Health Foundation, National Development Team for inclusion, NIACE (the national organisation for Adult and Further Education), RSA (Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce), Skills for Health and the World Health Organisation Collaborating Centre at the Institute of Psychiatry.
