Appeals:

If you have received your results and didn't get what you expected, you may be able to appeal. However, please bear in mind that your reasons for making an appeal must fall within the grounds specified in the University regulations. If you want to appeal, then you must do so within 7 days of your results being posted on the noticeboard. The onus is on you to find out your results and submit your appeal in time.

If you believe that you have sufficient grounds for appeal you must submit your evidence to the Chair of the Assessment Board (normally the Head of Department) by filling in the First Stage Appeal form. If you have already completed the first stage of an appeal and have been advised to move onto the second stage of the process you must complete the Second Stage Appeal form.

Please note - Research Students need to fill in slightly different forms for First Stage Examination Appeal and Second Stage Progress Appeal. If you need clarification on whether or not you have grounds to appeal or wish to discuss your case further either:

Extenuating Circumstances:

'Extenuating Circumstances' is a phrase which refers to serious and exceptional factors outside your control which have adversely affected your performance within your course/programme of study. These factors may have prevented you from attending examinations or other timed assessments or caused you to miss assessment submission dates. Examples are illness, accidents or serious family problems. Normally extenuating circumstances will relate to a change in your circumstances since you commenced your course. Everyday occurrences such as colds or known conditions such as hayfever will not qualify unless the effects are unusually severe.

ON-LINE SUBMISSION:
You can apply online via MyUCLan.

You must provide details of how your extenuating circumstances has directly affected your studies.

The Extenuating Circumstances Template can be used when uploading your evidence via the on-line submission service.

Please follow the Submission Guidelines if you are submitting your extenuating circumstances on-line.

PAPER BASED SUBMISSION:
Envelopes can be obtained from:

  • School Offices
  • The 'i', Foster building
  • Advisory and Counselling Centre (Foster Building)
  • Student Union Advice Centre 

DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION:

Submissions for extenuating circumstances must be lodged in the appropriate office at the earliest possible time and in any event no later than:

  • 5.00pm on 23 January 2012 (Semester 1)

  • 9.00am on 28 May 2012 (Semester 2, All year, and Semester 1 Reassessments) for standard semester based courses or three days from the date of the last assessment in all other cases

  • 5.00pm on 28 August 2012 (Semester 2 and All year Reassessments) for standard semester based courses or three days from the date of the last assessment in all other cases

Definition of Plagiarism: "to take someone else’s words or ideas and present them as your own without proper acknowledgement." (Marshall and Roland 1988). The University regards with particular severity any use of unfair means in an attempt to enhance performance or to influence the standard of award obtained.
