IMPACT: Linking Teaching and Research at UCLan

Over the past year eight Schools have been involved in a project to examine the impact of their School’s research on its teaching. Each School has produced a short book of case studies which demonstrate the dynamic relationship between research and teaching at UCLan. Each book also articulates a vision of research-informed teaching which is unique to each participating School.
When finished, these books will be disseminated across the University to staff and to students. The books will then form the basis of a website which will continue to be updated with case studies of good practice from many different disciplines in the University.
The intention is to produce IMPACT guides for each School. The Schools participating in the first round were:
- Built and Natural Environment (in press)
- Education and Social Science (in press - expected October 2009)
- Journalism, Media and Communication (in press -- expected October 2009)
- Languages and International Studies (published)
- Lancashire Business School (published)
- Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (in press)
- Public Health and Clinical Sciences (published)
- Sports, Tourism and the Outdoors (published)
In 2009-10 we plan to extend the scheme to a further 8 Schools.
