Work-experience

Having good qualifications and knowledge is not enough, often you need to be able to demonstrate experience and skills as well

• Paid work - full-time or part-time, temporary or casual
• Placements and internships and work-based projects as part of your course
• Voluntary, unpaid work or taking a gap year
• Holiday work, summer jobs and working abroad
• Work shadowing

Work-experience shows employers:

• You know what it means to complete a job, to work under supervision, and to relate to other employees
• You have shown that your academic achievements can be transferred to work
• You have shown commitment and energy in finding and keeping work
• You have tested out jobs to confirm career choices
