Contractors

FM arranges and oversees all work carried out on land or buildings owned by UCLan.  Much of this work, particularly specialist and construction work, is carried out by contractors.

We define a contractor as someone who provides services on site.  Below we’ll explain our criteria for any contractors who wish to be eligible to work at UCLan.

Constructionline

Within FM we procure contractors through Constructionline, which is a UK register of pre-qualified construction services.  Constructionline provides pre-qualification services which ensure that the contractors we use are fully competent and financially viable.

Constructionline operates a rolling programme to ensure that necessary information like insurance and industry certifications are continually kept up-to-date.

Find out more about Constructionline here.

CHAS (Contractor Health & Safety Scheme)

In addition to using Constructionline we also require contractors to hold CHAS Accreditation, to ensure that they meet rigorous Health & Safety standards.

CHAS Accreditation is re-assessed yearly, ensuring that all contractors working on UCLan premises maintain these high standards and are compliant with current legislation.

Find out more about CHAS here.

Waste Carriers Licence

As part of our ISO 14001 procedures, from 1st November 2010 it became mandatory for all contractors working on UCLan premises to hold a valid Waste Carriers Licence.  These licences are granted by the Environment Agency and they give us assurance that any contractor transporting waste from UCLan premises does so in line with the Environment Agency’s guidelines.

Find out more about Waste Carriers Licences here.

Site Induction

UCLan requires all contractors to undertake site induction training before commencing work on UCLan premises.  Please see our Site Induction page for more details.

Performance Monitoring Procedure

FM monitors the performance of all contractors working on UCLan premises; click here to see a copy of our Performance Monitoring Procedure.
