Entry Requirements
Students require a good honours degree (or equivalent) in a subject related to tourism, business or service sector management. It would normally be expected that this degree be awarded at the level of lower second class or above. Other graduates who can demonstrate a commitment to the study of tourism management or who have significant experience in the tourism industry will also be considered for entry.
Course Content
The PGDip/MSc International Tourism Management applies a range of key management skills across the public and private sectors of global tourism management. In particular, an international emphasis is placed upon the development, planning and management of tourism today to illustrate the past, present and future comparisons between tourism policy and its practical delivery. These approaches may be either political, economic or social however all serve to highlight how and in what way tourism is managed differently. Studies in International Tourism Management seek to integrate numerous practical understandings from a range of organisations and their global development from both the developed and developing world.
It is the growing size and dominance of tourism as a major employer around the world that leads companies and organisations to continually seek individuals with the knowledge and capabilities of managing numerous aspects of this international industry across a range of distinct areas e.g. government, authorities, accommodation, tourism agencies and intermediaries, natural and man-made tourist attractions and numerous other private and public sector organisations. Therefore, the PGDip/MSc in International Tourism Management has been specifically designed to meet such diverse challenges and provide a curriculum that will enhance the knowledge and skills of its students and ensure that they are able to cope with the variety of possible roles and responsibilities that follow.
The programme is intended to cater for those with an appropriate undergraduate qualification who aspire to a career in the area of management and tourism. Emphasis throughout the programme is therefore placed on developing a range of professional, managerial and transferable skills to be aligned with an extensive knowledge of management disciplines applicable to tourism today. This is a 12 month programme comprising three parts. The first two parts are the taught element and the final part is consists of research and writing the dissertation element. For full time students the taught element is normally completed over a nine month period starting in October. Part-time students will normally attend on a one day a week basis and complete the taught element in two years. Students who complete the taught element of the programme, in part or in its entirety, may graduate with either a Postgraduate Certificate or Diploma in Tourism.
Students wishing to complete the Masters of Science in International Tourism Management must complete the research element. The research element comprises of a dissertation. Full-time students will normally complete this in the three months that follow the taught element, whilst part-time students complete this during the course of an academic session.

Assessment:
Assessment includes reports, essays, presentations and seminar papers and for those completing the Master of Science Programme, a Dissertation. All of these are designed to relate to current momentum and challenge of the tourism industry.
Learning Environment:
Students will find the teaching and learning environment worthwhile and challenging. The learning environment is organised to ensure that key concepts, theories, and where appropriate, practices relevant to management in the tourism and hospitality industry form a central role in teaching and learning.
Throughout the programme students will engage in a range of learning activities including lectures, seminars, tourism management-related projects, presentations, group work and many more.
Careers:
Upon completion of the MSc in International Tourism Management graduates will be able to interface with a variety of service sector organisations within the private, commercial and public sectors.
