Course at a Glance

Year 1

The one year Postgraduate Certificate will enable you to gain a thorough grounding in the key aspects of business project management. You will take modules on:

- Principles of Project Management
- Financial Aspects of Project Management
- Organisational Aspects of Project Management
- Project Management in Practice

Year 2

The two year Postgraduate Diploma not only provides the above grounding, but also enables you to extend your understanding by taking the following modules in Year 2:

- Project Management Methodologies
- Project Management in an International Context
- Work-based Project
- Research Methods (option)
- Sustainable Project Management (option)

Year 3

If you decide to take the three year MSc programme, then you complete the taught modules and then, in year 3, you have the opportunity to undertake the Masters dissertation which will involve planning and implementing a research study on an approved topic within the area of business project management.  This provides an ideal opportunity to personalise your study programme reflecting your own interests, and current and possible future work context.  For many on the MSc, this is a good opportunity to relate your studies to issues being faced by your current employer, thereby enabling a useful payback for any support during the programme.

Learning Environment:

The Programme involves you in a challenging range of learning processes from day one.  Modules are designed to support the acquisition, analysis and consideration of Business Project Management principles, techniques and methods through lectures and discussion; application to organisational settings through case studies and projects; analysis of live issues and problems using materials from the media, research studies and your own employing organisations, and finally, to learn from the experiences of the students on the Programme itself. If you take the PG Diploma or MSc, in Year 2 you will work on a live project being faced by your organisation and test out the principles, techniques and methods that you have learned about on the programme.  For those on the MSc programme, during Year 3, you will also work closely with your supervisor to plan and undertake your Dissertation.

Careers:

A course module that will help you plan your career is available as a free choice module (called an elective), which you can study as part of your degree programme.
