Entry Requirements

Must include a good Honours Degree in the subject or equivalent professional/industrial experience with evidence of academic achievement. Applications must be accompanied by a research project proposal outlining their intended area of interest and proposed investigation.

Course Content

Teaching involves a combination of lectures, seminars, tutorials, presentations and industry liaison, and assessment is continuous. Theory underpinning practice is developed simultaneously throughout each semester and Negotiated Agreements Parts I and II allow students to acquire the ability to develop and refine proposals, which underpin their major projects, and reflect on personal progress. Students are expected to contextualize their work within a current framework, and develop evaluative skills in order to articulate their point of view. Research Methods and Application introduces students to a range of analytical research tools, forming the basis for all in-depth self-directed projects on the programme.

The course is continually assessed through module requirements, allowing students to achieve target awards. Final modules are graded Pass, Merit, Distinction.

Learning Environment:

The Victoria Building is a modern, bright building with purpose-built studios and workshops, including photographic studios, audio visual and computer imaging facilities. It is close to the library, computer facilities, student union, cafés, bars, refectory, and the centre of Preston is only a 5-minute walk away The Faculty of Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences has further computer facilities and the University's Library has a well resourced Art and Design section and a specialist librarian. The MA studio provides a range of facilities and work space.
