Specific Entry Requirements: 280 points at A2 level or equivalent, including GCSE Maths and English at Grade C or above. Applicants with alternative entry qualifications are welcomed and these will be considered on an individual basis.
Course Content
The modern UK Fire and Rescue Service has identified a need to recruit forward-thinking individuals, who have the potential to succeed as the managers and leaders of the future. Graduation does not provide guaranteed entry to the Fire and Rescue Service, but aims to equip the students with the skills needed to pursue a career in the fire industry.
The course covers: leadership, fire risk management, fire and rescue operations, fire science, fire safety, fire investigation, human resource management, business and management practice. There is a theme of community safety that runs throughout. The outcome will provide the foundation for a career in local authority fire and rescue services and other fire-related industries.

Assessment:
Modules will be assessed through theory and practical examinations, and coursework. Assessed coursework will include essays, reports, practical exercises, presentations and a dissertation.
Learning Environment:
Fire and Leadership Studies is delivered through lectures, tutorials, seminars and practical sessions. An operational module, which is delivered in cooperation with Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service, will provide students with the knowledge and expertise to attend incidents as professional firefighters and include access to their internationally renowned training and fire investigation facilities.
Careers:
A possible career path is into one of the many roles within the fire and rescue service or wider public sector. The course will be particularly attractive to those with a view to progressing into a management position. Community safety is rapidly expanding both within the fire service and other organisations and the skills gained on this course will be equally as valid in this arena.

Graduate employability for our course is 95%. Possible careers include a wide variety of roles within the fire and rescue service or the wider public sector. The course will be particularly attractive to those wishing to progress to a management position. Community safety is rapidly expanding - both within the fire service and other organisations - and the skills gained on this course will be equally valid in this arena.
The course does not guarantee entry into the fire and rescue service, but does aim to equip students with the necessary skills to pursue a career in local authority fire and rescue services as well as other fire-related industries.
What work experience can I get?
All students will gain hands on fire fighting experience. Work experience is very much encouraged and students will work within the fire and rescue service throughout the summer months and during the academic year, with support from a mentor.
Other practical experience includes students working in fire investigation departments and also in community roles, where they will carry out fire risk assessments, speak to the public about the dangers of fire or visit schools to educate pupils.
An operational module, delivered in cooperation with Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service, will provide students with the knowledge and expertise to attend incidents as professional firefighters.
What international opportunities are available?
There is the potential for exchange visits with universities and fire services in countries such as France and Germany.

Those successfully graduating the BSc (Hons) Fire and Leadership Programme will be given access to a Master of Science Programme and ultimately a Doctorate in Fire and Rescue Service Management all with flexible study options.
