Course Title:

Interior Design

Interior Design plays a dynamic role in shaping the spaces of contemporary living. It is concerned with the myriad ways in which built spaces can help to define and support everyday life.

The study of Interior Design provides a rich and complex subject for design investigation. At UCLan the diversity of the subject is reflected in a wide variety of explorative projects. Students are encouraged and supported to find and develop their own individual direction, from large scale interior architecture to small scale fit-out; from close exploration of surface and material to drawing and modelling the interior.

The course nurtures creativity, practicality, technical knowledge and critical awareness, enabling students to develop a personal design philosophy and a problem-solving ethos. This blend of practical skills, professionalism and creativity provides students with a broad design base and the ability to work in many areas of professional practice.

In Level Two projects focus on particular areas of design practice such as retail, theatre, exhibition and building reuse.  Advanced drawing and modelling skills, understanding materials, construction and detail are all developed to enable experimentation, creativity and practicality.  This is support by knowledge of theoretical and historical perspectives in contemporary interior design.
