Learning and Teaching in the School of Nursing and Caring Sciences

Learning and Teaching

Our School is dynamic and highly values our students! We are constantly working together to provide and develop opportunities for our students to engage in meaningful learning, in ways which allow them to meet their goals and aspirations.

We provide opportunities for students to develop a range of academic, professional and key skills on a continuum from induction to completion of programme, and as they progress through their careers as lifelong learners. We do this through teaching in small groups and large groups; using clinical skills laboratories; and practice placements such as wards, clinics, operating theatres and the community. We enable learning to take place from service users, other professionals, and specialist teachers, as well as from each other.

As teachers we aim to deliver the highest quality teaching by ensuring the practice of teaching is current and research informed. Thus we create the conditions for learning by providing opportunities for students to interact with diverse and appropriate resources. We also provide supportive strategies for students in developing their self-confidence, thus motivating them to continue to learn, develop and achieve their capability to contribute effectively to a changing world of health care delivery.
