This workshop will focus on the interaction between external mechanisms and their effect on internal muscle function.
This will include how we calculate joint moments and powers, how joint power change when considering different types of movement and how the internal mechanisms of muscles may be assessed.
A live demonstration of these interactions will be carried out followed by a student led laboratory session which could include a case study examining the immediate effect of a product designed to interact with the body.
Who should attend:
Allied Health Professions with an interest in human movement.
Learning Environment & Assessment:
Professor Richards work includes the clinical application of biomechanics, the development of new assessment tools for chronic disease, conservative and surgical management of orthopaedic and neurological conditions, and development of evidence based approaches for improving clinical management and rehabilitation. The focus of Professor Richards work is to encourage inter-professional research and to develop direct parallels with research to the ‘real world’ of allied health work.
Learning outcome & aims
By the end of the workshop participants will be able to:
- Understand the nature of muscle activity
- Describe how the internal mechanisms of muscles may be assessed
- Interpret joint moments and powers, how joint power change when considering different types of movement
Critically evaluate how these could be effective for the assessment of different conditions
