TESOL, Modern Languages and Area Studies

Foundation Entry Year

During your Foundation Entry Year you will study alongside peers from related courses, whilst you gain a broad introduction to the combination of a foreign language and teaching English. You'll develop fluency in your chosen language and gain a thorough understanding of the wider social, cultural and political context of the regions where the language is spoken. Your skills and knowledge are complemented in TESOL with the analysis of English language, further work on oral and written communication and study of theories, approaches and methodologies related to teaching and learning English. Alongside your language studies, you will analyse the theories, approaches and methodologies related to teaching and learning English. Our TESOL provision is accredited by Trinity College. Through our links with national and international employers, we provide you with opportunities to gain valuable work experience throughout your studies. Away from the classroom you’ll benefit from the support of our Worldwise Learning Centre, where you can learn a new language, apply for a LinGO Travel Award, gain further work experience and meet industry experts.
