Mindfulness is increasingly being utilised in therapeutic settings for depression and anxiety and integrated in treatments for chronic pain and insomnia. Mindfulness teaches us to direct our attention to what is happening in the here and now with an attitude of acceptance towards our experience and ourselves. Mindfulness teaches us the capacity to be present.

Marie Percival is a Senior Lecturer and Course Leader for the Counselling and Psychotherapy programme at UCLan.
Learning outcome & aims
By the end of the workshops participants will be able to:
- Discuss the theoretical underpinnings of mindfulness
- Identify the benefits of being present
- Introduce mindfulness exercises and techniques to clients
