Course Outline:
The aim of the workshop is to improve the awareness of participants practitioners in relation to the management of the patient with continence issues.

Academic Expertise

Susan Anderson comes from an acute nursing background. Sue is the module leader for both the pre and post registration infection control modules at UCLan and is an active member of the IPS. 

Learning outcome & aims

By the end of the workshops participants will:
  • Overview of the incidence, awareness and health promotion related to continence.
  • Analysis of the types of urinary continence.
  • Issues surrounding continence promotion.
  • Race, culture, ethnicity, ethics and sexuality.
  • Continence management in the patient with cognitive impairment or a learning disability.
  • Health education in continence care.
  • Faecal incontinence.
  • Care of the skin and the management of stomas.
  • Bowel care - background and assessment.
  • Medication, assessment and management of bowel care.
