Course Outline:
This one day experiential workshop will aim to introduce some of the underpinning principles of Art Therapy and for participants to consider the use of arts based media in their own practice to develop engagement and both verbal and non-verbal communication with clients.

The day will involve the active use of arts media and participants should wear clothes that they are comfortable to make art in.

Who Should Attend?

Mental health practitioners, Surestart workers, community voluntary organisations working directly with children and adults, hospice and care homes offering therapeutic interventions.

Academic Expertise

Imelda Hatton-Yeo has a background in mental health nursing and trained in art therapy in 2004. She has worked with a range of community and voluntary organisations, education and the NHS offering individual and group art therapy, community arts and arts for health projects. Imelda’s main area of experience has been in working in CAMHS as a practitioner and manager.

Learning outcome & aims

At the end of the workshop participants will be able to:
  • Understand the key principles related to Art Therapy from a psychodynamic perspective
  • Utilize some creative approaches to communication and engagement with others
  • Apply creative approaches to own practice area, where appropriate.
