Here at the University of Central Lancashire we are doing everything we can to minimize our impact on the environment, assisting you to run a greener meeting or event, whilst providing an excellent professional service. We continually set ourselves high standards for environmental performance and operate a number of policies to ensure our commitment to environmental and green issues. Our policies include: The Environmental Sustainability Policy, Health and Sustainable Food Policy and Waste Management.
We continually improve on our use of natural resources by reducing the consumption of water, electricity, gas and oil at the Preston City Campus. We are responsible for reducing waste generation and the environmental impact of the buildings. We also improve on sustainable procurement by considering the life cycle and environmental impact of product and service purchases.
Waste and Recycling
Waste minimisation and recycling is an important sustainability issue due to the decreasing landfill capacity and the need to maximise resource efficiency throughout product life cycles. UCLan has a dedicated Recycling Team which has enabled us to meet recycling rates year on year. Some of the items we recycle include alkaline batteries, books, cardboard, CDs, paper, furniture, plastic and metal drink containers and electrical items.
We integrate human rights into our sustainable food policy via purchasing Fairtrade goods. The Fairtrade mission is to connect disadvantaged producers and consumers, promote fairer trading conditions and empower producers to combat poverty, strengthen their position in world markets and take more control over their lives.
Sustainable Modes of Travel
We are committed to promoting and improving sustainable methods of transport such as public transport, walking, cycling and car sharing to reduce the carbon footprint. Through a reduction in the amount of carbon produced we benefit from improved air quality and noise reduction. By changing from an often stressful and expensive solo car journey to more sustainable modes of transport you can take advantage of individual cost savings and health benefits.

Here at UCLan we have changed the way we work to make simple, tangible and powerful changes in behavior to provide Green Events. The Conference and Events Team via Facilitates Management have been awarded the Green Impact Silver Award.
