People's History Museum
The People’s History Museum (PHM) is a world class national independent museum on the social history of working people in Britain located in Manchester.
At UCLan we are proud of the close partnership we have built with the museum collaborating on dynamic projects and utilizing the collections in our teaching and research.
Over 100 undergraduate and postgraduate students are taught each year using the museum’s resources for subjects including: History/Politics; Design; the Institute of Local and Family History; and the Museums and Archives and Publishing Realistic Work Environments of ceth. Students enjoy special visits to the museum arranged by our Post-Doctoral Research Fellow (PDRF) Dr David Stewart who works closely with the museum on projects and research.
The museum makes a significant contribution to UCLan through the dissemination of knowledge in partnering special exhibitions with academic themes; joint conferences and publications; and in specialised research on posters, banners and aspects of textile conservation. The museum’s collections also played an important part in our RAE 2008 success.
