Artists Access to Art
UCLan breaks 400 points barrier in evaluation process.
Project background
As part of a national project, opportunities are being offered to artists and designer makers to use art college facilities to develop their work. The project was originally developed by the National Association for Fine Art Education in collaboration with the National Artists Association based on research done at Norwich School of Art and Design. The project was successfully extended to include designer makers and is now managed by the Council for Higher Education in Art and Design.
The schemes are run along national guidelines, within closely defined parameters, although they are flexible enough to allow each participating college to tailor its scheme to suit the local situation. Whilst colleges can decide which facilities they are able to offer, artists can state their preferred hours / days for access. The resulting 'Access Agreement' will be arrived at by a process of negotiation between the artist/ maker and the staff and technicians. This agreement will be formally recorded for reference. Each scheme will have its own distinctive features relating to the facilities available.
