A former nursing student who decided to switch her career direction graduated from the University of Central Lancashire with flying colours.

Sara Ali, gained a first class degree in Active Citizenship and Volunteer Development and went on to complete an MA in Community Leadership with the Centre for Volunteering and Community Leadership (CVCL).

Sara, who now works as a Support Tutor at Newman College and still volunteers with the CVCL was the first president of UCLan’s Global Youth Leadership Programme and has taken part in International GYL conferences in America and more recently Pakistan.

Sara said: “After realising studying for a nursing diploma was the wrong choice for me I chose to enrol on the BA(Hons) in Active Citizenship and Volunteer Development and went on to study an MA in Community Leadership. The courses complemented previous voluntary and youth work experience I had undertaken and has given me lots of opportunities to travel and work with marginalised communities around the world.”
