From UCLan Intern to Senior Brand Manager, Rosie shares her story

Some people choose the University of Central Lancashire with a specific career path in mind, whereas for others the University can provide direction on what they want to do in life.

Rosie Lulat had skills and ambition but didn't know which career she wanted to apply her skillset to. With a passion for the written word and impressed by the quality of the linguistic academics, Rosie chose to study BA (Hons) English Language and Literature.

Reflecting on her degree choice, Rosie said: “I deliberately chose a degree with a broad subject matter as I wasn’t sure of my career path post University, but I always knew I was going to do a master’s.”

During her time at University, Rosie developed an interest in communications and continued her development by studying a MA Publishing, graduating in 2014. She secured an internship at UCLan in the External Relations team, before being successful in getting a permanent Events Assistant role at the University of Central Lancashire.

After working around two and a half years at UCLan, Rosie moved on to The Write Angle, a marketing and PR agency in Buckshaw Village where she worked as an Account Executive.

"Take your time thinking about what you would like to study, but that doesn’t mean that what you study at University will be directly related to doing what you love in your career, it’s building the skills that matter."

After working for an agency, Rosie moved back in-house as a Senior Brand Manager for Cloud Technology Solutions, a software company based in Manchester. Rosie changed roles within the company and is now the Brand Manager of CloudM, the software brand at Cloud Technology Solutions. Her role involves driving lead generation with oversight of PR, events, external brand and channel marketing.

Reflecting on the steps that helped her get into this position, Rosie said: “I studied English and Publishing because I love the written word. I knew I wanted to work in comms, but it wasn’t until I started working in Marketing at UCLan that I understood what kind of roles made up a Marketing department and therefore what I wanted to specialise in career wise.

She continued: “I really loved events management, but I moved over to PR and marketing as I wanted to broaden my skill set to further my career prospects in the future.”

When asked what advice she would give to future students, Rosie said: “Take your time thinking about what you would like to study, but that doesn’t mean that what you study at University will be directly related to doing what you love in your career, it’s building the skills that matter.”
