Pharmacy research success

Diamond-UCLan Collaboration

With funding from the Diamond Light Source Ltd., Dr Mary Philips-Jones from UCLan's School of Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences (PBS) has been awarded a joint PhD studentship with Dr Rohanah Hussain at the Diamond Light Source in Oxfordshire to investigate adherence mechanisms of bacteria that cause hospital-acquired infections. The project will utilise light generated at the synchrotron beamline at Diamond to study the membrane protein ‘triggers’ of bacterial ‘stickability’ and to identify new inhibitors that disrupt their activities.

Organic Chemistry PhD Studentship

The School's Dr Tim Snape has also been awarded funding from the Sydney Driscoll Neuroscience Foundation and Brain Tumour North West to support a PhD studentship exploring the development of novel compounds for the treatment of glioma.
