"I chose to study BA(Hons) International Business Communication on a franchise in China for two years and then joined the final year of the course on campus in Preston. The course was great value for money and offered great opportunities to experience different cultures. My lasting memories of UCLan are the great atmosphere and the city, many interesting people from different cultures. Preston is a small but convenient city where student life is very comfortable, with a great range of facilities and great assistance to international students.
My message to international students would be to stop wasting time and instead invest in your future by participating in any activity that might improve your skills. Living in the UK has helped me to improve my English language skills a lot. The fact that I had to do many presentations and write business reports has also been a great aid.
Due to my studies I received two awards: Linguist of the year and a Performance prize. My biggest achievement is getting a job that I love. Following graduation I went back to Kazakhstan and was hired for the first job I applied for at RBS Kazakhstan. As a contact centre officer, I am part of a young team that deals with all customer enquiries. I believe this is a stepping stone to my career and I am glad I am able to learn a great deal about the bank as my position requires a thorough knowledge of all of the bank's products, most of its processes and systems."
