BA (Hons) Event Management (2011)
An interest in the events industry from a young age has led to one UCLan graduate working with an international logistics company, involved with prestigious sporting events such as the Winter Olympics, sailing and the World Cup.
Luke Wrigley graduated from the BA (Hons) Event Management degree in 2011 and now works as a European Event Coordinator (Fairs and Events) with Schenker Ltd.
Luke says: “Schenker Ltd specialise in the logistical movement of event equipment for many international sporting events and all types of exhibitions and small private functions. We are appointed freight handler for some events which gives lots of travel opportunities to work at venues all over the world.
My dad worked in the events industry as an exhibition designer and growing up seeing him travel and work at so many interesting events inspired me to follow in his footsteps. After school I pursued my interest by joining UCLan's Event Management course; this gave me the academic skills and knowledge of this vast industry that I needed. This then led to my job at Schenker. Since working here I have been to Dubai (twice) Hamburg, Paris, Turkey, and soon Austria.
I have also had an article published in Schenker’s magazine for some additional work I did to help the event organiser for a large event - this helped maintain a close relationship with them and gets myself recognised. We as a department have won awards within the company for being very profitable and successful playing a huge part within the Olympic movement. We are a member of the Association Event Organisers awards which my colleagues won an award at; this gives me aspiration to one day achieve such recognition.”
