The sociology team are involved with Junior University, which is UCLan's flagship Widening Participation & Access project and is about to go into its third year. In 2013, 260 high achieving Year 10 pupils from the Preston & East Lancashire area are participating. A recent session delivered by sociologist Jessica Marshall that examined young people and surveillance received glowing feedback.
Louise Oldfield, Senior Officer in UCLan's External Liaison and Access Team, said: "I was in the session for quite some time and I have to say your style of delivery was excellent and it was pitched at the right level for the young people. When I was getting involved in the first activity the young people were really thinking about the task you had set them.
"The feedback we had from the ambassadors at the end of the session was that it was a fantastic session, and that was shown in the fact you were still teaching at 6.30pm and they were not shuffling around to get going for the bus. I also heard there was a dance-off during the break so people were really getting a flavour of JU!"
