MSci (Hons) Archaeology
Jasmine, who graduated from MSci (Hons) Archaeology, is now digging deeper into the knowledge of past times in her current job as a Museum Attendant at the Buxton Museum and Art Gallery, while completing her part-time MA in Art Gallery and Museum Studies.
The job has proved an invaluable source of information: “While working at the museum I've had the opportunity to see how archaeological material is processed by museums after excavation,” Jasmine said. She also witnessed how that is recorded for future researchers and packed and stored within controlled conditions in the museum archive.
Her course at UCLan prepared her for the job, as she explains: “It gave me the ability to identify objects within the museum archive, work with databases and gave me invaluable background information on time periods. It provided me with many essential skills which were primarily how I obtained this role. Therefore preparing me brilliantly for working in an area related to me degree.”
Jasmine advises other students to be practical in their approach: “My advice would be to take modules which give you skills that can be use within a working environment it is your skills that are going to help make you employable.”
