“My main hardship was the cost of travelling involved in coming to university.  I am an off-campus student living at home as I didn’t want to be too far away from my parents.  The Harris Bursary Fund helps students in my situation and gave me the chance to be on the same level as people who live at university and have access to all the features it has to offer."

“I received a laptop which I can use whilst I am on the train to catch up on work.  This was great as I can be ahead of my classmates and be able to use the time on the train to get up to speed with my subject."

“I hope to one day own my own business and become successful in the technology market.  This will impact my family and give them a better life in the future.  I hope to help future struggling students by being in a position where I can donate to the Harris Bursary Fund and possibly offer the students jobs in my business."

David's Advice

“My advice to other students would be to reconsider and think of what possibilities they’re missing out on and what they are limiting themselves too if they give up on university. The Harris Bursary Fund, along with the other help that the University offers, makes UCLan one of the best universities around.”

David thank you

“Thank you so much you have given me another chance at completing my studies. As soon as I finish and find my feet I will give back to the charity as much as I can so I can make a difference to someone who is in the same situation as me. I think this is one of the best ways of repaying charity by giving someone else another chance in life.”
