Three guest speakers from GSK gave workshops and presentations on the pharmaceutical industry to fourth year MPharm and MSc Industrial Pharmaceutics students from the School of Pharmacy and Biomedical Science on 3rd May 2013.
Students were very positive about the day, with 84% agreeing that it gave them a good insight into the pharmaceutical industry. Students also commented that it gave them a better understanding on the regulatory process and realised that the pharmaceutical industry is a competitive working environment that requires a “balance between working individually and as a member of a group”. They also particularly enjoyed the counterfeit medicines session.
Students also commented that:
• “Pharmaceutical industry affects community and hospital pharmacy not just industry and so as pharmacy students we must consider all aspects of pharmacy.”
• “…I have always considered a career in hospital / community rather than industry, however it is interesting to learn about another side to the pharmacist role.”
