Danny made the most of every opportunity whilst on the BA (Hons) International Journalism course. He wrote for a student magazine, specialising in business and finance, and carried out the second year of his degree at our partner university in China, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies.
While in China, Danny freelanced for local news organisations. Back in the UK for his final year, he did a prestigious BBC World Service placement and secured a university bursary to return to the Pearl River Delta in China, to enhance his final-year coursework.
Danny was determined to work as a journalist in Asia, and after graduation he began work experience with China’s top English-language newspaper, the South China Morning Post in Hong Kong. He impressed them so much that, half-way through his placement, he was offered a permanent job.
Danny believes that UCLan’s links with China have been “indispensable in being a springboard for the placements and opportunities … without it, I wouldn’t be walking through the door of major news organisations today.”
He also made the most of the course’s flexibility, with its wide choice of options and electives: “BA (Hons) International Journalism gave me the freedom to pursue and shape my degree around my career aspirations.”
