UCLan recently welcomed Vicky Clark, founding partner of national legal recruitment consultancy BCL Legal and bclgraduates.com who presented to our final year legal practice course students. She provided an intensive guide on how to produce the perfect job application, how to succeed at interview and secure that all important job offer on the first rung of the legal ladder.
The former Halliwells solicitor shared her experiences over 15 years of working in legal recruitment providing advice on what to include in a CV, what to avoid and how to demonstrate a variety of skills and attributes to a potential employer such as ‘commercial awareness’ and ‘well roundedness’.
Vicky was full of positivity for the students, telling them that they need to set a timetable to ensure they don’t miss deadlines as well as trying to instil the need for tenacity and perseverance. Whilst the market is extremely buoyant across many areas of law, competition remains stiff. She went on to give examples of the growth of the market – with the advent of ABSs, increased recruitment across legal departments of FTSE 100 businesses and the increase in lawyers at the top accountancy firms.
BCL Legal offers a free specialist service for law graduates seeking job opportunities across the country, please visit www.bclgraduates.com for full details. To contact Vicky directly for advice on drafting the perfect cover letter or CV please email her at firstname.lastname@example.org
The next event will be with a panel representing the profession talking about what they want from their trainees / paralegals at 11am on 11th March.
