MA Sports Coaching (2011)

“Following a career in management, I wanted to pursue a more rewarding career in sport. I enrolled on the Foundation Degree programme at a partner college and then topped up to a full BA (Hons) in Sports Coaching at UCLan. This gave me the platform from which to build upon my knowledge and skills by undertaking the MA Sports Coaching, where I specialised in Talent Development for my dissertation."

"I’m working as a lecturer in sport at Lancaster and Morecambe College and I’m now a PhD student studying Talent Development at the Institute of Coaching and Performance (ICaP). Alongside my studentship, I am also in the process of publishing my MA dissertation through ICaP.

I learnt a vast amount from the staff and other students on the course, and the whole process, whilst very challenging throughout, was a massively rewarding and thoroughly enjoyable experience.

I know that without my MA and the knowledge and experience that came with it, I would not be in a position to undertake a PhD. My coaching has also improved massively in a variety of aspects as a direct result.

I feel like I’ve achieved a great deal. Professionally, I’m playing a fundamental role in the development of youth footballers through to the professional level as part of a successful academy programme. Personally, I’ve become a father and I’m surviving!”
